We are still buzzing from the incredible energy of our recent Additional Learning Needs (ALN) ski trip to the sun-soaked slopes of Prato Nevoso, Italy. From the first sight of the snow-capped peaks to the final tearful goodbyes, this journey was more than just a holiday—it was a milestone.
Every pupil returned home with more than just a souvenir; they brought back a newfound sense of independence and memories that will truly last a lifetime.

A Seamless Journey
A trip of this scale requires precision, and we were in the best hands possible. The smooth experience from start to finish was largely thanks to the meticulous planning of Sarah and Lucy from the Select Ski team. Their behind-the-scenes magic ensured that every logistical detail was handled with care.
Once we arrived in Italy, our in-resort rep, Naomi, was an absolute star. Her constant support and friendly face made navigating a new environment feel like second nature for our pupils and staff alike.

Excellence on the Slopes and at Home
The heart of the trip was, of course, the skiing. The instructors in Prato Nevoso were nothing short of amazing. They didn’t just teach techniques; they built confidence. With patience and tailored encouragement, they provided our pupils with the best possible experiences on the mountain.
When we weren’t on the snow, our accommodation provided the perfect sanctuary. The hotel was warm, welcoming, and felt like a home away from home. A special shout-out must go to the restaurant staff, who were incredibly accommodating, ensuring that every mealtime was inclusive and stress-free for our group.
Why These Trips Matter for ALN Pupils
While the skiing is fun, the real “wins” happen beneath the surface. For pupils with ALN, a trip like this offers profound developmental benefits:
Independence: Being away from home in a safe, structured environment allows pupils to practice self-care and decision-making, boosting their self-esteem and autonomy.
Building Resilience: Learning to navigate the physical challenge of skiing helps pupils realize they can overcome obstacles they once thought impossible.
Sensory Integration: The unique environment of the Alps—the crisp air, the crunch of snow, and the physical sensation of gliding—provides a rich sensory experience that can improve motor skills and body awareness.
Social Connection: Sharing a room, eating together, and supporting peers on the slopes fosters deep social bonds and improves communication skills in a real-world setting.

“To see the smiles on their faces as they conquered the nursery slopes was a reminder of why we do this. These aren’t just ski lessons; they are life lessons.”
