Health and Safety Updates

As a company formed by a team with a long history in educational travel, we fully appreciate the role of Health and Safety within our industry and our Safety Management System forms the bedrock of our organisation.

Announcement 19.3.2020

Due to the escalating situation in the UK, our team will be working from home from tomorrow until further notice. Our head office number will divert to the duty phone, where calls and messages will be distributed as required.

Party leaders can still contact their Regional Travel Advisors through the usual channels. Details can be found here:

Thank you for your support and patience though these challenging times.

Our commitment to Health and Safety is inherent in everything we do, from our staff work environment to all of our groups out on tour. We have rigorous procedures in place to ensure consistent standards are achieved and adhered to for all of our travelling guests.

TRAVEL ADVICE UPDATE - COVID-19 - Current as of 17.03.2020

As of 17.03.2020, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised against all non-essential international travel, initially for a period of 30 days. This advice takes effect immediately.

Government announcement >

Therefore we will not be operating any trips at least until the 15th April 2020.

This is an unprecedented situation.

Our customers are our top priority and we fully empathise with schools in this challenging time.

We would ask for both patience and understanding as we process the implications - we have a significant number of groups affected and will need to prioritise by departure date.

Where there is Foreign Office advice against travel to a destination 48 hours prior to travel, this will entitle the customer to a refund.

We will be in touch with our customers regarding implications and next steps for their booking as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued understanding and patience during these complex and changing times.

Departures after 15th April 2020 are currently scheduled to run as planned and any cancellations at this stage will be subject to normal cancellation charges.
Should this change we will be in contact directly.

Q and A all destinations

If the group or specific individuals choose to reconsider travelling on our trip, would there be any financial compensation or would we lose all of the money?

  • If the FCO has not imposed travel restrictions to the relevant area/destination, the trip will continue as planned. Should you decide to cancel, fees would apply according to our terms and conditions.

If our flight is cancelled by the airline as a direct result of this issue, would Select find alternative travel arrangements?

  • Yes, we would endeavour to find a suitable flight option based on your circumstances to facilitate your overall package.

What happens if the FCO declares the area we intend to travel to as ‘restricted’?

  • If the FCO published advice is not to travel to your stated destination 48 hours prior to your departure date, then Select as your operator would aim to find a suitable package alternative. If this is not possible, then a full refund would be provided under the EU Package Directive. The refund confirmation would be aligned to your departure date in accordance with ABTA regulations.

If the situation of access changes when we are abroad, would an alternative be provided?

  • If elements of your itinerary are unavailable, we would aim to make suitable changes or offer a refund for the activity/excursion (subject to availability)

What precautions can we take?

  • Follow the advice given in the UK wide campaign, which has been launched to provide clear advice on how to slow the spread of coronavirus. This also gives advice on basic hygiene practices, such as the regular washing of hands and always sneezing into a tissue to stem the spread of viruses.
  • Brief all school staff on the signs and symptoms of coronavirus (
  • Check before travel if any pupil has travelled to or been in direct contact with anyone from a coronavirus affected area (e.g. for those who may have visited China within the last 14 days) – it is highly probable they will be denied entry to the designated destination.

If you have any further questions please contact your dedicated Travel Advisor. Please note: we are only able to speak with the named Group Leader on the booking.
